88-98 Chevy GMC Trucks and SUV
The 1988–1998 Chevrolet & GMC GMT-400 Series—better known as the OBS (Old Body Style) platform—has become one of the most popular truck generations in the modern classic market. From lifted 4x4 trail rigs to restored work trucks and sport-styled street builds, the OBS lineup delivers a perfect blend of nostalgic appeal, modern drivability, and huge aftermarket support.
Auto Metal Direct (AMD) is proud to offer a rapidly expanding line of OE-style sheet metal, interior components, trim, lighting, and hardware engineered specifically for the entire GMT-400 family, including C/K series pickups, Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, and full-size Blazer models.
This landing page breaks down the entire OBS family by model, chassis code, year range, and interior generation—giving enthusiasts a complete, easy-to-understand guide to the platform.
The GMT-400 chassis launched for the 1988 model year, replacing the squarebody-era GMT-300 trucks. It introduced improved aerodynamics, modern ergonomics, advanced fuel injection packages, and a refined suspension design.
Although commonly called “1988–1998,” the platform actually spans multiple chassis codes, especially when including SUVs that extended into the late ’90s and early 2000s.
Below is a complete overview of the GMT-400 family. Each platform shares major structural design elements but features unique interior trim, lighting, and body panel differences.
